Director Brian Williams, Ireland’s answer to pint-sized sex symbol Dudley Moore, has been at it again, seizing the helm to bring Virgin Media Ireland’s re-branding campaign to the attention of its near-half-million customers.
The concept for the commercial, titled “Long Live Television”, was created by Dublin based agency Rothco, and opens with a dystopian graveyard for old fashioned television, stuck in the past showing down-beat clips from old movies on obsolete sets.
Williams used his many years of design creativity to lead us from this gloom into the light where “a new era of television awaits”.
“For me this job was the perfect blend of technical challenges and creative expectations,” said Williams, “The live action shoot has a real thrown together, pop-promo aesthetic, but we had to be very mathematical with the timing of camera moves in order to hit the right moments. In contrast the post side developed day by day, creating new animations and renderings, so my direction moved from the set to the desktop, and I love that.”
Williams is repped by Bang in the UK and the US. He is currently deleting his browser history and making a determined effort to ‘be good’ in future.
