BMW has broken a new world record with its latest spot created by Jun von Matt AG, 'The Laser Record'. Directed by Carnage's Oisin Tymon (former series producer on Top Gear) and produced in collaboration with Hochkant Film, the spot sees the new M2 - equipped with a mega powerful laser - compete for the balloon-popping world record on a dark, futuristic set.
A truly mesmerising laser show, the spot marks Oisin's directorial debut.
"The brief from Jung von Matt was quite loose - they wanted to break real records, and were keen to tap into my experience of devising and executing these kind of never-done-before, real stunts," comments Oisin. "The creatives at JvM were great to work with throughout - they wanted to push the boundaries and show the dynamism of the M2 (a super-hot little car), in a unique way."
The stunts in the film were indeed real, but the team wanted to make sure the spot didn't feel like a filmed 'event'. "I bought in the idea of the studio to establish the concept, and to shoot the stunt at night to add the drama and mystery," said Oisin. "That stark graphic look and the ‘Stranger Things’ sound composition work really well together I think."
