Nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2022 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, ‘Above Boy,’ the documentary film about members of the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, expanded its festival run at Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival on August 13th and will compete among six shortlisted films for ‘Best Short Documentary’ at the BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, August 23rd – 28th.
In a recent Q&A, directors Sebastian Funke, Jan Vogel and Lucy Martens share behind-the-scenes stories of their journey filming on the Reservation, collaborating with producer Godfrey Chipps and insight they hope audiences take from the film.
The documentary shares intimate portraits of the Chipps family and a glimpse into the heritage Godfrey Benjamin Chipps' leaves for his family as a fourth-generation descendant of Horn Chipp – the Medicine Man for legendary Indian Chief, Crazy Horse. Unvarnished and eye-opening, ‘Above Boy’ is a film about ancestry, consequence, the delicacy of ceremony and life on the Reservation.
The film is produced by Believe Media CEO/EP Liz Silver, Godfrey Chipps, and Sebastian Funke. For more information or to schedule a screening visit aboveboy.com.
