BBC Brit Takes ‘The Murder Detectives’ Global and Focus Music Checks in for the Ride

With podcasts like ‘Serial’ and Netflix documentaries like ‘Making a Murderer’, it is no surprise that true crime is leading the pack when it comes to factual programming. And now 3 part documentary ‘The Murder Detectives’ is adding to the genre's global appeal. Following last year’s UK premier, BBC Brit has decided to take it to South Africa.

The compelling documentary tracks the murder investigation that resulted from the killing of 19 year old Nicholas Robinson in March 2014. It’s tough to watch and the tragic phone call made by Robinson to the emergency services is upsetting to say the least. But director David Nath handles it in way that’s observant and does not sensationalise the tragedy.

To grasp the family’s grief, the input of the community and the brilliant work of the detectives in 30 seconds is no easy feat, but the BBC Brit promo manages it, aided by Focus Music’s track ‘Hot On The Heels’. Taken from the album ‘Crime Drama’, it provides the right level of tension to capture the nuances involved in the true crime genre.
