‘Stick this in your heteronormative, neurotypical, infinite-jest-loving pipe and smoke it.’

Globally acclaimed creative director Beth O’Brien has been announced as the guest speaker for this year’s AWARD Twilight Talks & Drinks event in Melbourne, to be held at St Kilda’s Prince Hotel on Wednesday 8 March.

Head of innovation at The Monkeys, part of Accenture Song, Beth O’Brien is a queer and neurodivergent creative leader who has developed award-winning campaigns for some of the world’s leading agencies including Droga5, R/GA and Colenso BBDO Aotearoa.

Her work on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign for Droga5 was billed as "a masterpiece in political advertising” by The New York Times and Forbes Magazine, while her work for Colenso BBDO Aotearoa won her the country’s first DA&D Black Pencil.

O’Brien is also a champion for change across APAC’s ad industry - a big believer in using creativity to dismantle systems that ignore the marginalised, young people and the planet.

At AWARD Twilight Talks, she’ll share her approach to creativity, how she has navigated the industry as an ‘outsider’, plus discuss how advertising could have an even greater impact for good if we imagine new and interesting roles for ourselves.

AWARD Council member Tara Ford, Chief Creative Officer at The Monkeys, part of Accenture Song, said: “This is an unmissable event for creatives, agency leaders and anyone in our industry who cares about people and the world around them.

“Diversity is paramount to the work we do, therefore hearing the lived experience from a globally respected leader like Beth makes this event one that you have to get along to.

“Be sure to come down for a drink, a catch up, and some hugely important insights from a stellar industry speaker,” she said.

AWARD Chair Cam Blackley said: “AWARD’s inaugural 2022 Twilight Talks event with Robbie Brammall was incredibly well received and having Beth on board for our second year is yet another coup.

“We look forward to her sharing her story and insights with Melbourne’s creative community,” he said.
