Arthur and Martha Head up Newly Formed Collective 'Tiny Riot'

Andrew Cope, of tokyoplastic fame, has joined forces with Natalie Hill and Sarah Browell of Arthur and Martha to head up a newly formed, multi-disciplined collective ‘Tiny Riot’. The sole purpose of Tiny Riot is to create beautifully crafted design through collaboration across a variety of media: be it brand identity, logo design, interactive graphics, motion, character design or even merchandise.

A longtime friend of Natalie and Sarah, Andrew was raised on a staple diet of cartoons and skateboard graphics meaning his appetite to consume bold visual imagery began early. After completing his education, and via a brief career in video games, Andrew started experimenting by mixing graphical strangeness with sound and motion. Drawing on his passion for design, love of Manga and in awe of the Superflat movement started by Takashi Murakami - tokyoplastic was conceived. Tattooed onto the underbelly of the interweb in 2002, tokyoplastic was a creative platform with many faces. Blurring the lines between animation and graphic art and mixing cute with the grotesque, the work quickly gained notoriety winning numerous international awards.

Andrew continues to carve out his unique style and edge in the field of design and animation, working closely with Arthur and Martha on various projects from its inception and being responsible for the company’s logo and ongoing brand identity. Four years on and still going from strength to strength, Arthur and Martha’s founders felt the time was right for a fresh challenge. It was an easy decision to join forces with Andrew - and Tiny Riot was born. 

Tiny Riot’s latest project has seen the creation of a brand identity and logo for Final Cut’s new dry hire editing facility ‘The Lofts’. Tiny Riot used the iconic lift as a starting point and took inspiration from the beautifully lit and spacious suites on the fourth floor of their impressive building.  

Tiny Riot are also hosting an exhibition of Andrew’s latest artwork. Under the moniker of HIDE his first series of prints is a stunning collection of visual work that explores graphic themes: distorting the visual motif of camouflage with iconography, popular culture and brand imagery. The HIDE collection will be shown at a private viewing on the evening of 4th April and can be viewed on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th April at We Built This City on Carnaby Street, where a limited run of prints will be available to purchase.
