The award-winning series casts a deadpan, mordant eye over mini-scenes of absurdity

Three new micro-films, the first new additions for 18 months, have just released in The MUTE Series, the droll minimalist web series by Andy Lambert, a London-based filmmaker and commercials director. Winner of the Best International Series Award at the Buenos Aires WebFest 2016, selected as a Top Five Indie Series of 2016 by Tubefilter.com and recipient of a coveted Vimeo Staff Pick in 2017, The MUTE Series is totally unlike most web series in that it is not unified by a continuous storyline or by recurring characters, but rather by an idiosyncratic sensibility. A collection of single-take miniatures, The MUTE Series casts a deadpan, mordant eye over mini-scenes of absurdity, seeing the funny side of greed, conformity, desire and various other traits of human behaviour.

Each film is between 1½ - 2½ minutes and they are all made with a distinctive and striking style. Fed up with unnecessary dialogue, excessive camera moves and cuts every few seconds, Lambert has opted to do away with all these things. Stripping film-making down to its most basic elements, The MUTE Series pledges allegiance to three strict rules:

RULE 1: No dialogue

RULE 2: No camera moves

RULE 3: Only one shot

The MUTE Series is unusual but instantly accessible and has an accumulative effect with each episode complementing and enhancing the other, creating an intriguing world where no-one speaks – a world made up of irrational pursuits and strange comforts.

The three new films are:

Turn On - A couple get it together in an unusual way – based on an idea by renowned philosopher and cultural critic Slavoj Žižek. This is the first time a Mute film has been adapted from existing material

Rule of Thumb - A tale from the road of chance

The Gents - Someone’s having a bad hair day in the washroom

The new films in The MUTE Series have been produced by commercials production company 76 Films in London.

You can watch the first 12 films on THE MUTE SERIES website.
