Sony/ATV also represents all the legendary Motown’s group’s classic songs that feature in the Broadway production, including “My Girl,” “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” and “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.”
The musical was nominated for Best Musical in the Tony Awards nominations announced today, while the show’s performers Derrick Baskin (who plays the group’s Otis Williams), Jeremy Pope (Eddie Kendricks) and Ephraim Sykes (David Ruffin) are all nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. Dominique Morisseau is nominated for Best Book of a Musical, Des McAnuff is nominated for Best Direction of a Musical and Ain’t Too Proud has also received nominations for choreography, costume design, sound design, scenic design, orchestration and lighting design.
Following runs in Berkeley, California, Washington, DC and Los Angeles, Ain’t Too Proud opened to ecstatic reviews at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway, New York, in March this year.
Sony/ATV Music Publishing Chairman and CEO Jon Platt said: “Sony/ATV is honoured to represent The Temptations’ legendary song catalog and to be a collaborator of this astonishing musical about the group. I am delighted that it has now been recognised with 12 Tony Award nominations and I want to congratulate everybody involved in the show on this incredible achievement.”
