Paying tribute to one of the club’s greatest players of all-time, adidas and Manchester United unveil the adidas x MUFC x George Best collection, which draws design inspiration from the 1967/68 season.
Different from other clubs, Manchester United have a lasting legacy with iconic players and the number 7, from Cantona to Beckham to Cristiano Ronaldo. But it goes further back than that, arguably starting with George Best, a true trailblazer of his time. Now, paying tribute to his legacy, adidas presents the MUFC x George Best collection, which features a long-sleeve jersey and matching tracksuit, with the design inspired by the club’s memorable 1967/68 European Cup winning season.
YOUTH MODE was tasked with finding and licensing a song from 1968 that reflected this golden period in both George Best's and Manchester United's history. Creative director Jack Derbyshire explained, "I went through my playlists, spoke to a wide variety of reissue labels, and explored every option. Once we landed on 'Brain,' it was a perfect fit, nothing else was even considered. It's also a criminally underrated song"
Famed Beatles producer George Martin signed this British mod outfit to his AIR Productions in the mid-’60s and helped them produce a few psych-pop singles. Jack continued, "For me, 'Brain' stands out as one of the greatest tracks of that era. It’s a real shame it wasn’t released until 2002, because it truly holds up against anything else recorded in that period."
'Brain' was released in 2002 as part of Rolled Gold, an album that captured the band’s final demo recordings from 1967-68.
