It was a night to remember for Able&Baker Director Remy Cayuela as his Wilkinson ‘Afterglow’ promo collected the Vevo Must See Award at the 2014 UKMVAs on Monday. The award caps a busy year for the director who picked up first prize at this year’s Young Director Awards and has continued to receive a succession of nominations and wins. View Remy's reel here.
Commenting on his success, Remy says “It feels awesome! It’s one of the most respected award ceremonies in the industry and there was so much great work shortlisted. I was delighted to be a part of the selection, amongst so many directors whose work I love, and it’s great to be able to share this win with the incredible team that I had around me. The award is voted for by the public, so it’s very touching to see how much the audience loves the video.”
Alongside his UMKVAs win, Remy’s ‘Feel of Love’ promo for Tensnake has been made an official selection at this year’s International Music Video Festival (IMVF) in Paris. It’s the 10th anniversary of the IMVF awards and the international community will come together on the 21st and 22nd of November to announce the winners, which will be voted for by the the public.
Further adding to Remy’s success, the Vevo Hot This Year awards have shortlisted two of Remy’s other recent works. His Duke Dumont ‘I Got U’ promo has been nominated in both the Best UK Video and Best Dance/EDM Video categories, whilst Tensnake ‘Feel of Love’ has been nominated in the Funniest Video of the Year category. Again, these are open to public voting.
With a win and a number of nominations behind him, Remy says “I’m very proud and so happy. When I wrote the script for Wilkinson ‘Afterglow’ I didn’t know that I’ll have to start counting awards too, that’s an amazing achievement.”
In the last 12 months, Remy has worked on a host of commercials and short narrative pieces whilst his impressive portfolio of music videos have recently received recognition in other countries.
“It’s been a whirlwind 12 months and it feels great,” he says, adding “I started working with Able&Baker last year and we’ve had a very successful year together. Each project was a creative challenge and I’m happy that we get such a good response. It fills me with so much energy to move onto the next challenge!”
