Blinkink had the pleasure of working a second time with renowned indie game publisher Devolver Digital on their annual new games showcase. The original 20-minute short premiered on June 7th at the 2024 Summer Game Fest - the biggest event in the global gaming calendar.
The film was written and directed by Joe Pelling, one of the creators of the BAFTA-winning Channel 4/YouTube series 'Don't Hug Me I'm Scared', and the mastermind behind Devolver's first presentation film from the 2023 Summer Game Fest: 'The Return of Volvy'. This year, Joe brings back their beloved and fictitious '90s video game mascot, 'Volvy', with a fresh narrative that interweaves new characters, announcements and trailers to promote Devolver's upcoming slate of releases, including: 'Possessor(s)', 'Tenjutsu', 'Anger Foot', 'The Crush House', 'Cult of the Lamb: Unholy Alliance' and 'The Talos Principle 2: Road to Elysium'.
'Volvy's 15th Birthday Party' journeys through the overactive imagination of a mild-mannered superfan named Mathew. The film showcases Mathew's encyclopaedic knowledge of Devolver games and his completely normal and not-at-all suspicious relationship with their iconic mascot…
The presentation was live-streamed last week during the Summer Game Fest on Twitch and attracted a peak viewership of 1,633,365 people. It is available to watch now on Devolver Digital’s YouTube channel, and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with many from the gaming community hosting watch parties to celebrate this latest update.
