As part of Publicis Groupe Central & Eastern Europe (CEE)’s 'Embrace Gender Equity' initiative that was launched during this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8th, the company created a special series 'Publicis Groupe CEE Lioness' designed to showcase and spotlight its many female talent and leaders across the CEE region, celebrating their experiences and important roles they play within the company. Get to know the Publicis Groupe CEE Lionesses through their stories in this series.
Aleksandra> I had just finished Electrical engineering and Computer science in university; a very persistent friend convinced me to give advertising a shot in the '90s which turned out to be a compelling experience. I went on to step up and into the unknown to open an agency, partnering with Publicis. We grew by winning local clients making us very competitive and confident. I was not thinking about the obstacles, and I was working really hard.
I think the ambition to be the best was the key driver for me. I was and I still am thinking how I can do better or do better than others.
Aleksandra> There are so many of them. Winning our very first client - working through the night, then driving 700km to Athens to present and win. Re-writing the pitch presentation in the car, on the border between Serbia and Croatia. Winning the biggest client in the country (Deutsche Telekom). Sharing success with the team through recognitions won at Cannes Lions, Euro Effie, Golden Drum and more. Being on stage in Atlanta to receive the Silver ROI Excellence Award by the Groupe. Receiving the ‘Chevalier des Art et des Lettres’ decoration by the French government. Being approached by people saying their experience in Publicis changed their lives.
Aleksandra> The biggest challenge in my life and career was losing my husband to cancer.
Losing my husband, who was also my partner in business, felt like losing the purpose of my existence. But work and my agency team gave me the direction I needed at the time. Growing the people around me and being able to affect their personal development; being proud of what we do together; and doing good for the broader society gave me the sense of purpose - and it still does.
Aleksandra> Do the right thing, give the best of you at a given moment. Work hard. Success and money will follow. My favourite quote is “There are no shortcuts for any place worth going”.
Work with people who are clever, and cleverer than you.
Treat people with respect and care.
Make sure you have fun and make friends – our industry and Publicis Groupe are great for meeting interesting, intelligent, and inspiring people.
Aleksandra> Stick to your ambitions and priorities regardless of doubts and obstacles.
Clearly say what you have to say and make sure you are being heard.
Ask for support and be the support and inspiration for other women.
