Directed by Aardman’s Åsa Lucander, the music video for Coldplay’s track Daddy, combines live action puppetry, digitally painted sets and 2D animation to create a tapestry of styles that symbolises the girl’s memories of her dad.
The full length, five-minute video follows a girl lost at sea, alone in a rowing boat and sailing towards the unknown. The turbulent sea is echoing glimpses of her past with her dad, and the sea and skyscape becoming the emotive canvas projecting the girl’s memories.
Daddy premiered across social media on the 20th November 2019, two days before the release of the band’s new album, Everyday Life. The video has been watched over 12 million times on YouTube, (peaking at the #8 trending video on the platform), and has received coverage across mainstream music media (Billboard, NME, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork) and a variety of creative publications (It’s Nice That, Creative Review, Dezeen).
