ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to Pete Addington, Head of 3D and Technology

As 3D Artist (Generalist) you will be responsible for the efficient delivery of print and motion- based projects. The ability to accurately interpret briefs and plan the technical requirements needed through knowledge of CGI workflows is essential. Experience in CGI production demands and task timings are also required.

The main aspects of the role include:

  • Producing high quality CGI for print and animation.
  • Modelling, texturing, shading, lighting and rendering to a high level.
  • The role requires closely collaborating with the Creative Directors and production department during a variety of projects.
  • As a Generalist, we expect a solid leaning towards asset creation and generation. Product lighting and rendering would be a plus.

  • Expert Knowledge of 3dsMax/Maya
  • Lighting and rendering (Vray)

You will work with the Head of 3D and Technology to improve systems and procedures.

Good communication and the ability to handle tight deadlines are important core skills. The candidate will need to maintain good morale within the team and positively contribute to the studio environment.

DUTIES

  • Modelling of hard and organic surfaces.
  • CAD data preparation.
  • Texture and UV generation to the highest possible standard and detail.
  • Shader creation and lighting on hard surfaces and organic assets.
  • Utilising the in-house rendering toolsets.
  • Maintaining awareness of technical developments in the industry and seek to continually improve personal skills and techniques.


PROJECT INPUT

  • Maintain continuity and critique work with positive and thoughtful analysis.
  • To prepare and present work-in-progress to production and the director/creative lead.
  • Advanced problem solving, including suggesting and explaining solutions to team.
  • Be open with task communication and keep staff and production updated on work status.
  • Improving processes and structures to aid Production and CGI departments. Working with team to ensure effective running of the department.
  • Share ideas with the creative team and be an active member in developing visual quality.


TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT

• Follow tested production methodologies and develop technical approaches with practical solutions to problem-solving.

  • Research, review and improve knowledge of CGI and VFX techniques, bringing latest ideas to productions.
  • Good understanding of the PBR rendering workflow.
  • Understanding camera setup and camera pre-vis to support shoot production.
  • Organising and documenting render shaders into various libraries.


SOFTWARE SKILLS

  • Advanced knowledge of 3ds Max or Maya. Would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of both. Experience in many of the common plug-ins used in the industry in both software suites. In the London studio we mostly use 3ds Max, so you’ll need to be proficient in this software or willing to learn.
  • vRay Next render engine plus awareness of third-party renderers (Arnold, Octane, Redshift, Clarisse)
  • Professional level of Adobe CC Products – Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, Audition
  • Solid understanding of the compositing workflow via Nuke and After Effects
  • Optional/Desirable Skills
    • zBrush
    • Substance Painter/Designer
    • Cinema 4D
    • Realflow
    • Asset creation for 3D Printing
    • Unity, Unreal Engine and real-time asset creation
    • Marvellous Designer/Cloth
