We were asked to compose and find the right vocal artist for the film. Tip vd Bos, in-house composer in Berlin made the instrumental and through research Casper, A&R manager, found a match: HVNLY, an R&B artist from the Netherlands.
One of the biggest challenges with projects like this is trusting the process of making all the pieces fit. We knew the film was already great but creating something that would lift the film and make it feel extra special through collaboration with an artist is a challenge.
The solution was to make use of our in-house talent and our network. Director Brian Swoboda picked HVNLY from a selection of our contacts and was intrigued by her creativity.
The music had to feel powerful but still give a certain un easy felling as well. The music had to re-inforce the feeling of two people getting torn away from each other by a mysterious force. The music had to feel like it was getting ripped apart at certain moments.
Then it was the challenge to find the right vocalist that would be the force that could break the two lovers apart. Whilst simultaneously holding the music together and drawing the listener into the story.
HVNLY once visited MassiveMusic’s headquarters through A’dam music school. Being an aspiring artist we met and I never stopped checking out her music. After pitching her songs and voice for a couple of projects this was the first one that was a good fit - and many more to come!
