Confidential information for the jury
The results of our data analysis showed millions of reactions supporting the Afghan people in just three months. But the process had to be handled carefully given the sensitive nature of the situation and the immediacy of the need. There was no room for error.
Moreover, collating anonymous data on social media from specific platforms requires careful planning and intensive research. We had to ensure that the data points were specific to Afghanistan without any bias, so a deep analysis was conducted to get the real picture.
In addition, we had to keep political sensitivities in mind as ICRC works across the world, so any data related to mention of specific countries like Pakistan was not highlighted. During the conflict, Pakistan was being accused of supporting the Taliban and ICRC could not be seen backing these claims. So, we excluded mentions of the country and anonymised the data.
