#MadeByMusic is an initiative from Three Ireland created to champion emerging Irish music talent. Three music videos
were commissioned for three exciting Irish artists who represent the
originality and diversity of Irish music: Jafaris, Saint Sister and Kormac.
The third
instalment in the #MadeByMusic series, a music video for New Day, by Kormac ft.
Jack O’Rourke, was shot on location in Zimbabwe by Cannes Lions-winning DP
Katelin Arizmendi. The film was directed by William Armstrong and follows the
story of a young man from Soweto, one of South Africa’s largest townships, and
the people closest to him. Here, poverty and unemployment are widespread and
many young people find themselves with no outlet. But for the characters in
this film, train surfing has become a means of escape. A moment of freedom in a
world of hardship, accessible to anyone with the courage to try it. Music
connects the three friends in this film, and they use it to psych themselves up
for this exhilarating past time. This plays an instrumental part in the lead
protagonist finally finding the courage to let go.
