In Ireland the number of skin cancer cases have doubled in the last decade and continue to rise. Ireland has the highest mortality rate from melanoma in Europe.
People have become accustomed, and a little complacent with the 'Slip, Slap, Slop' message so we needed a new way to get them to take more care of their skin in the sun. We needed an educational-style film that could be shared.
To create the film we proposed to switch regular UV sunscreen with UV sensitive paint. A series of tests were conducted to see which paint would create the immediate effect we needed, one where the participants could see the areas they had missed when they applied their sun screen
The
activation and film called on people to increase their
UV awareness and be vigilant when applying sunscreen, to ensure they achieve
100% coverage. Using UV technology, the film shot by Trevor Hart highlights the hard to reach and
often missed areas that result in patch burning, such as the back of the neck, ‘widows peak’,
tip of the nose, ears and the lower legs.
Using Olympians and sports people we targeted those who normally see themselves as 'outdoorsy' reminding them to look after their skin health when they are outside in the sun and active protecting their wellness.
