The Brief: To give depth to the story – a storyline that screamed ‘please find the right song’, both from a lyrical and an emotional perspective. The vibe we wanted to create was crystal clear from the start: intimate and emotional, yet optimistic. Exactly what people - ourselves included - are craving in these trying times.
The Challenge: We started searching long and hard for a recognisable song that had storytelling in its lyrics to make it fit with the characters and the story. Additionally, the song had to be particularly suitable for revision, re-arrangement and re-recording.
The Solution: ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’ by Simple Minds seemed to be the perfect match, yet we needed to give it a new spin, production-wise. So we asked Dutch singer WYTIKI (also known as Wieteke Wijte) to re-record it with us.
The Result/Outcome: Once it was out in the stratosphere, we started seeing countless reactions on the music, especially in the comment section on YouTube. This is how it works most of the time: we produce a track for a campaign and we move on to the next project. But sometimes magic happens. The audience listens to that 1-min track and showers us with compliments, pushing for a full-length version (which feels ridiculously good). So we decided to release a full-length version of the song under the alias Echo Room.
