Remember when we were first locked down? We were all suddenly feeling trapped in our homes. Maybe even a little scared.
Yet for millions of women, it was more than an inconvienience. More than a little scary. They were suddenly stuck indoors with their abusers. Day and night. Abusers who may be feeling disempowered. Frustrated. Angry at losing their jobs.
It was a horrific perfect storm.
Calls to the Refuge helpline rose by 49%.
Reported domestic violence deaths in the UK doubled. In two weeks.
We realised we were in a moment in time when we could activate the nation - millions of us who were suddenly working from home could now be #listeningfromhome.
So we wrote a script for our existing clients NoMore, directing people to The BrightSide app and the NoMore website, where they could find help and advice on what to do next.
The film was produced in 10 days.
And this was at the very start of the UK’s Covid nightmare, and full lockdown measures were in place.
So our director directed remotely. The DoP shot from his car, his flatmates were the talent and also lit the ‘set’.
And everything was captured in one long, shot.
The film ran in social, on the NFL Network (cause supporters) and Univision
