Fast food customers are not particularly loyal. 71% of Burger King customers also go to McDonald’s. Time to bring them back to the King. Thus, we made the impossible possible: a Burger King ad in McDonald’s own movie magazine. Just when the famous horror-clown saga "IT – Chapter 2“ was released.
On the day of the launch, we took the magazine and turned the “IT 2” article into an Augmented Reality marker, only visible when using the Burger King app.
The technology enabled us, to turn every McDonald’s in Germany into an in-app Burger King AR experience.
Geo-located push notifications and social media ads targeted customers directly at McDonald’s. At the end of the experience, the app used the customer’s GPS data, to create a Whopper-coupon that was limited to the time it took to get to the next BK. Whoever escaped the clown in time was rewarded with Burger King’s most iconic burger.
