​In competitive cycling where every millisecond counts, wind drag is the enemy. Ironically, the racing helmet is the one piece of gear every rider legally has to wear that increases drag and decreases speed the most. Because for Scott Sports their products are their marketing, they asked if we could finally find a fix. Our data-infused research started in the wind-tunnel and revealed a central paradox: racing helmets designed in wind tunnels didn’t work on the race course where riders don’t hold an unnatural form, but constantly move their heads and shift their bodies. So, we shifted our focus to designing the helmet around this real-life rider behavior. We compressed the classic teardrop shape into a more forgiving aerodynamic form. We then added additional industry-first improvements like ergo-flex ear covers, a Venturi ventilation system, and spring loaded eyewear garage. Now, for the first time, riders could  ride like riders – not lab rats – all while benefiting from a racing helmet with the lowest drag coefficient in the industry.
