FADING EXHIBIT
Fading artwork with a lasting impact
PROBLEM
Alzheimer’s affects roughly 1.2 million people in Germany with 300.000
new cases diagnosed each year. The earlier patients know, the more steps they can take to slow its progression. Yet awareness about
the disease is still low.
IDEA
We used Berlin’s influential art scene to spread awareness about Alzheimer’s with The Fading Exhibit:
an event featuring innovative artworks that faded day-by-day, just like patient’s memories.
EXECUTION:
We commissioned 15 artworks created by artists with a family history of Alzheimer’s. Each artist painted a personal memory that, just like the symptoms of the disease, slowly faded over time.
Each artwork was created with a special thermochromic pigment. We fitted the paintings to custom designed frames with a hidden, built-in heating system. Each day of the exhibit, the heat of the frames was turned up, which caused the paintings to fade.
