Together with Superculture, UNIT9 created an innovative audiovisual experience that carries the viewer through an abstract space infused with the soul and dominated by the presence of the Audemars-Piguet Roc Repeater.
The abstract direction and multilayered levels of imagery and perception of this piece create an ethereal, almost dreamlike experience for the viewer to be absorbed into.
Nothing renders into reality the passage of time more than the eternal interplay of air and water. Fog rising in valleys at dawn, clouds racing along snow-tipped crests; rain falling through forests, ripples on a quiet lake. All these images we associate with the passage of time. They show us time manifested in the physical world. The ancient landscape of the Valleé de Joux only adds to this historic, temporal dimension of nature. Over millennia, water and air have sculpted this incredible environment.
We took these essential elements and weaved them into an abstract audiovisual space – a stage at the heart of which sits the Roc Repeater watch, featuring the key conceptual components that in return sit at the heart of the watch.
We created a room with LED monitors for walls, on which actual images of the overlapping will play out as well as brief shots of previously filmed cymatic footage. The shots are slow, ethereal, otherworldly camera dollies through an environment entirely at peace – a place untouched by the strains and stresses of the modern world. Only in a place as ancient and serene as the VdJ could one conceive a watch so iconic and enduring.
