For the Brawny TV commercials “Gift” and “Chili” created by Cutwater for Georgia Pacific, Cutwater needed the iconic Brawny plaid shirts worn by the Giant. Since GP owns the Brawny plaid, wardrobe could not be found in market and had to be custom made.
It was very important to Cutwater and GP that the shirts be American however, fabric production in the U.S. is almost exclusively knit fabric, not woven. Most woven fabrics for apparel manufacturing is produced offshore with a long lead time.
Fortunately, Armory’s Director of Operations, Dani Beck, came from the apparel manufacturing industry and was able to track down Sustainex, a fabric mill in North Carolina to weave the custom Red and Black plaid. Once fabric was addressed, a factory had to be found. Dynotex, a small garment production factory located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn worked closely with Armory to make the custom plaid shirt shown in “Gift” and “Chili”.
