INFLUENCER: StrawberryFrog's Scott Goodson analyses the POTUS' seasonal marketing strategy

There’s a fight brewing this Holiday season. A bruiser stewing this Christmas. For years now, many Americans and most brands use the words 'The Holidays' to reflect our pluralistic society at this time of year. This makes the President go crazy. He’s said on multiple occasions that he doesn’t know why we don’t use the word 'Christmas'.

Most Trump supporters have bitten on this issue. On the outside, the clamouring around this issue doesn’t feel like much of an issue at all, when there are so many real issues to deal with.

"Why is this relevant to marketing," you ask? Well, it’s yet another example of the President telling America to do what he wants, which grates against popular culture enough to bug the heck out of liberal minded people. Here’s the significance. When the President openly calls for Americans to use 'Christmas', it looks to many people like he’s using this to create a conflict that generates passions, anger and the will to fight for or against this issue. And in today’s world this is the marketing strategy that keeps your POV, brand and voice top of mind, at a time when keeping people’s attention is like keeping the attention of a goldfish.

This is very easy to unwrap for the average person watching conservative Fox news media: this is inexcusable. 'Christmas' is another example of how society is falling apart and needs to be saved/changed. It’s only a matter of time until Fox makes the case that the Christmas scandal is the fault of the Clintons, who’re not running for anything.

These kind of fake issues generate brand heat and stoke passions, but are also great at turning the tables on real facts and real issues: Russia, collusion, climate change, or moreover the tax cuts proposed by Republicans, which will include the undoing of Obamacare resulting in 13 million Americans losing their healthcare, according to the Congressional Budget office.

Happy fighting.
