Lief director and actress Olivia Lonsdale releases her first short film, 'Almost Grown'.
16-year-old Senna struggles to find her own way in the world while still feeling deeply connected to her smothering mother.
Senna is eager to spread her wings and experience life on her own terms. But her mother, who has always been protective and overbearing, is determined to keep a tight grip on her daughter's life. Senna longs for independence and autonomy, but at the same time feels a sense of loyalty to her mother that will never be broken.
Olivia’s compelling short film was funded by the Dutch AMARTE FONDS and is released on streaming platform Cinetree for Dutch audiences, as well as NOWNESS PICKS globally.
“I remember being 16 and feeling 18, so mature… but still so little and a child.” Olivia Lonsdale comments on using the complex and honest relationship between mother and daughter “It's a story about letting go, making your own choices and becoming an adult. It's about my mum and me, my mum and her mum, about my aunts and my grannie and maybe one day my future self as a mum.”
Olivia Lonsdale recently collaborated with Dutch music platform Dekmantel and sports brand Salomon for her first commercial, and is repped by Lief globally via their Amsterdam offices.
