This Game Asks If You Are Blacker than ChatGPT?

ChatGPT can tell you (mostly) true things about Black history, but a new game from creative agency McKinney called 'Are You Blacker than ChatGPT?' tests the cultural competence of ChatGPT and your knowledge of Black culture. For example, do you know where Usher was at 7 o’clock?

McKinney created the quiz because they believe Black culture is constantly evolving and can't accurately be captured by ChatGPT. There are new jokes, memes, quotes, and lyrics every day, and it's challenging for AI to keep up. McKinney's game challenges you to match your knowledge of Black culture against ChatGPT with questions like: 

What song are you most likely to hear at any Black celebration?

What's the quintessential Thanksgiving dessert?

Who coined the phrase "on fleek"?

As evidenced by the recent popularity of the swag surfin’ dance, the ingenuity of Black creators influences not just Black culture but global culture. By inviting people to test their knowledge, McKinney hopes to shed light on how AI bias can manifest in ways many people don't realise, making the experience enlightening and enjoyable. "AI tools will no doubt continue to be a part of mainstream culture, but they will never be able to replace the people who shape the culture," says McKinney copywriter Meghan Woods, one of the game's creators. "The game also serves as a reminder of the value in getting to know one another and understanding different cultures,” added Chandra Guinn, executive director, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging at McKinney.
