With the campaign by Host/Havas, Greater Sydney is encouraged to use less water as the brand discovers residents are spending an average of nine minutes in the shower every day – more than double the recommended limit

In the wake of Greater Sydney’s worst drought on record, Sydney Water has launched the Water Wise Coach, a digital tool created to help Sydneysiders become more water efficient at home.

The Water Wise Coach has been designed and developed by the digital, innovation and experience design teams at Host/Havas to help people understand their water usage habits and implement water wise practices into their daily routine. Accessed via Sydney Water’s Facebook chat and Messenger plugin on the website, the tool asks users to complete a short four-minute survey in exchange for a personalised Water Wise Plan.

The launch of the new digital tool follows Sydney Water research that shows spending more time at home has brought about big changes to daily water usage. Greater Sydney residents are spending an average of nine minutes in the shower every day – more than double the recommended limit of four minutes, using enough water to fill 155 Olympic sized swimming pools each day.

The Water Wise Coach will be supported by an integrated digital, social, influencer and PR campaign from Havas Village agencies Host Havas, Havas Media, Co-maker and One Green Bean, driving people to interact with the new tool and gain tips on being more water efficient at home.

Bohdi Lewis, head of innovation at Host Havas said: "The Water Wise Coach is the latest innovative step we’ve taken with Sydney Water to give Sydneysiders a simple way of understanding how their water habits in and around the home can translate to reduced water use. We understand everyone has a unique relationship to water, so we’ve created personalised plans to help make the biggest changes in water behaviour tailored specifically to an individual’s usage. If Sydneysiders use the Water Wise Coach today, we can help protect our most important natural resource for the future.”

Katya Koch, brand, external communications and engagement manager, Sydney Water said: “As we’re only beginning to recover from the worst drought in our history, it’s important we keep making water efficient habits part of our everyday lives. We know it’s hard to measure the amount of water our showers, taps and toilets use, so we have developed the Water Wise Coach to provide people with a tailored water wise plan to help them understand and improve, their household water consumption.”
