Spike Lee to Direct Adaptation of Broadway Show ‘American Utopia’

Spike Lee, Oscar winning director, is signed to direct a filmed adaptation of pop/rock icon David Byrne’s acclaimed Broadway Show, American Utopia. There has not yet been a release date or platform announced for The American Utopia film. However, a 2020 release date is expected. The critically acclaimed Broadway Show opened in October of 2019 and will run through February 16th, 2020. American Utopia melds the worlds of pop/rock music and theatre and reminds us of the importance of equality. 

The film is produced by RadicalMedia, Byrne’s Todomundo, Lee’s 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, Warner Music Group, Participant Media, and River Road Entertainment. Executive Producers include: David Byrne, Spike Lee, Participant’s Jeff Skoll, David Linde and Diane Weyermann; Warner Music Group’s David Bither, Charlie Cohen, and Kurt Deutsch; Bill Pohlad of River Road; RadicalMedia’s Jon Kamen, Dave Sirulnick and Meredith Bennett; and Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson and Patrick Catullo, who lead the Broadway production.
