After wildly successful stops in Sydney and Tokyo, Björk Digital is coming to Somerset House in London from September 1st.
REWIND:VR has once again worked with the artist as part of a close collaboration with directors Warren Dupreez and Nick Thornton Jones, to create a groundbreaking VRX (Virtual Reality eXperience) music piece for ‘Notget’, a single from Björk’s 8th studio album, ‘Vulnicura’.
The content is part of a series of five bespoke experiences for tracks featured on ‘Vulnicura’ which will give fans the chance to immerse themselves in a range of virtual and merged reality installations. The exhibition showcases the largest ever simultaneous HTC Vive VR installation, which has been created thanks to the support of HTC, AMD’s high end VR graphics cards and Intel’s powerful CPUs.
The ‘Notget’ experience gives the viewer an intimate and personal performance from Björk herself. Combining innovative capture techniques including high resolution 3D scans, on location holostudio, motion capture and videogrammetry along with real-time spatial audio design, the user is embedded into Björk’s performance which is an ever evolving and changing digital form of particles created in partnership with PopcornFX, light and sound which is beautifully poetic and fully immersive.
Our team of digital artists and technicians were on set during the initial performance capture stage to ensure data collection went smoothly. Using a system of Kinect sensors, point cloud data was gathered, including full details of costumes and masks worn by Björk. This captured data was then fully cleaned up and replicated in 3D, with focus on syncing the spatial audio with the unique visual style.
The HTC Vive and it’s room-scale tracking capabilities has allowed REWIND:VR to create a performance piece that reacts to and connects with the users as they are encouraged to explore the large physical space, creating a deep connection that can only be achieved and experienced in VR.
