Globally, 768 million people do not have safe, clean water to drink, and more than 2.5 billion people live without a proper toilet. The lack of these basic necessities is not merely inconvenient — it’s lethal. Every day, an estimated 1,600 children under five die from diarrheic diseases; nearly 90 percent of these deaths are linked to water, sanitation and hygiene.
UNICEF and Droga5 NY are challenging you to go without your smartphone for children without clean water using Tap Project. Every 10 minutes one of you goes without touching your smartphone helps UNICEF provide one day of clean water to a child in need.
Here’s how it works:
1. Access the mobile app: Visit UNICEFTapProject.org on your smart phone. No download or signup required.
2. Unlock donations: For every 10 minutes on the site, you can help UNICEF provide a day of clean water for a child in need.
3. Help children: Once the cell phone is touched, the site calculates the time spent and impact of the effort.
Visitors to UNICEFTapProject.org can also learn more about UNICEF's clean water initiatives, sign up to be a volunteer and make their own personal donation to help UNICEF provide children with clean water. This year's program is supported by National Sponsor Giorgio Armani Fragrances and other UNICEF Tap Project sponsors.
