The awards, which take place on 5 September, are in partnership with Central St Martin’s College
The 2nd Nova Awards for fresh creative talent, created by global advertising network Lowe and Partners in 2011, in partnership with Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design, takes place on 5 September. Only three Nova’s are awarded to the Central St Martins students, with one overall winner, who are voted the best in class from this year’s graduates.
In June, Lowe also sponsored the college’s annual degree shows and selected a shortlist of 13 from an impressive collection of work, from across all Central St Martins courses. Thousands of pieces.
The 2012 short-listers are graduates from fashion, fine art, industrial design, graphic design, creative practice for narrative environments, product design, jewellery, animation and textiles. They also represent a truly international showcase of talent, hailing from China, France, Korea, UK, Iceland, Spain and Poland. Details of each are below.
Chairman of Lowe and Partners, Tony Wright, commented: “We are so impressed with the standard of talent at Central St Martins, from which we selected our shortlist. It wasn’t easy selecting just 13 from 100’s graduate’s work, but our 13 deserve a place on the list. They represent the best most innovative talent across a number of disciplines from fashion to industrial design. As a global network, our currency is creativity, so it is a privilege to continue to support the fostering and discovery of the talent of the future and reward it.”
Some of the most successful names in the world of the arts and design today, graduated from Central St Martins – from fashion, Alexander Mc Queen, Stella McCartney, Katharine Hamnett; from acting, Paul Bettany, Simon Callow and Colin Firth; from the fine art, painting and sculpture world, Gilbert & George, Lucien Freud, Elizabeth Frink and Peter Blake; from music Jarvis Cocker, Jo Strummer and Paloma Faith and from the world of design Terrence Conran, James Dyson – to name but a few.
