DDB Stockholm has created a film to launch the latest Angry Birds game. The agency won the assignment after a global pitch and is now drawing international attention with ”Revenge of the Birds”.
For the launch of the latest update in the hugely popular Angry Birds series, Rovio has tapped DDB Stockholm to create a filmed experiment.
Angry Birds is an app based-game where the player uses a slingshot to shoot birds against pigs with the aim to destroy all the pigs on the playing field.
In DDB's new film, the birds in the game finally get revenge for the harsh treatment that millions of users have exposed them to in the games. In "Revenge of The Birds” the birds get to launch people down a ski slope.
”DDB Stockholm is an exciting agency that does unexpected things, which is a perfect fit for a company like Rovio” says Joonas Virtanen, marketing manager for Rovio Entertainment.
In the film, three people - an executive from Rovio, a journalist from Wired Magazine and an Angry Birds game enthusiast - are placed in separate toboggans for a ride on a ski slope. The sleds are controlled by separate birds head movements using wireless camera technology.
The birds irrational movement patterns results in a rough ride, about as rough as when users shoot birds with slingshots in the game.
”We reversed the perspective and brought the world-of-Angry Birds to the real world” says Stefan Gustafsson, copywriter at DDB Stockholm .
The new film has already been viewed from as far as Pakistan to the U.S.
DDB Stockholm won the assignment for what is arguably the world's hottest game developer in an international pitch against several other international agencies.
