Great Guns Director, Graffiti Artist and Designer Remo Camerota, travelled to Hong Kong in July to attend the opening for ‘Gromit Unleashed’; a unique exhibition (the first outside of the UK) of 70 sculptures; each individually created and decorated by an array of top designers, celebrities and international brands.
As a result of some outstanding work in Hong Kong 2 years ago, (Remo designed gas cover for the city), he was invited by Aardman Entertainment and E Concepts to create 2 Gromits to be used in the lastest Aardman exhibition ‘Gromit Unleashed’.
Remo comments ‘Gromit in the Sky with Monstaz’ , is a blue Gromit with painted characters of my own Cloud Montaz. I have been drawing these characters for quite a while - I paint them onto children's bedrooms around the world. I knew they would lend to Gromit’s child-like and carefree, playful demeanor.
“My other design, ‘Gromits Day of the Dead’, is inspired by the yearly Mexican tradition ‘Day of the Dead’; a festival where people dress up as the dead to welcome the spirits back to earth for celebration. It’s kind of like a Mexican Halloween”
In fact Remo’s Day of the Dead Gromit was so well received it was chosen for the ‘Gromit of the Day Award’ .
The exhibition is running from 21st July until 31st August after which the sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for Art in Hospitals in Hong Kong.
On participating in the project Remo comments: “There are over 70 designs and 60 artists chosen to participate, and being a Wallace and Gromit fan from it’s inception in the 1990’s, I am honored to be part of Aardman history!
The best thing about it too is that anyone can own one or both of my Gromits, or any of the others. In September they go up for auction to the highest bidder to raise funds for Art in hospitals Hong Kong. This is a children’s hospital for HK. Last year Bristol raised 2.5 million pounds with their exhibit, I would be thrilled to raise that much money to help the kids in need”.
