Production company FRIEND has signed
Dax Martinez-Vargas to its director roster for UK and Amsterdam representation.
Having co-founded Sniper Twins at
film school in Texas, Dax went on to spend five years writing and directing
multi-award winning promos in the MTV On-Air Promos department.
Since then, he has gone on to
create clever and visually stunning work with agency powerhouses Droga5, Grey,
Mother, BBH and many more.
Dax has also directed spots for
globally recognised brands including Carling, Coors, Burger King and Mentos,
all of which has helped him become known as one of the premier directors
shooting cinematically-stylised comedy spots in the industry today.
Now more experienced and
humour-savvy than ever, Dax is looking to strengthen his already formidable
reputation as a member of FRIEND’s diverse director team.
“I’m chuffed to bits to join this
smart and personable team, which is actively involved in fresh and relevant
projects,” says Dax. “Besides being solid and lovely people, FRIEND have great
taste and the savvy to sense the future direction of our industry. I’m excited to continue directing spots in my
vogue of cinematically-styled comedy, along with tonally different projects
where I can bring an original angle.”
Unfazed by format, Dax has always
approached his craft with a constant drive to push the creative envelope,
conquer limited resources and inspire his collaborators to embrace bold risks,
so his signing will further bolster FRIEND’s already mixed director roster.
Luke Jacobs, Managing Director/EP
at Friend, says: “It’s not every day you find comedy directors of Dax’s
calibre. He combines cinematic filmmaking with a great eye for casting and
performance, which is a rare combination. He’s also worked extensively in the
UK with Creature, BBH and others, so he has quite the track record over here.”
Dax concludes: “FRIEND feels like the right place to facilitate and support my journey through the film continuum, and I appreciate this opportunity to work together."
