Dive Into this Surreal Fashion Film 'Shark' from BRF's Danny Sangra

Luxury online retailer mytheresa.com and Italian fashion house Miu Miu have collaborated on a special fashion film to launch an exclusive Spring-Summer 2017 capsule collection. The two-minute short ‘SHARK’, written and directed by Danny Sangra, revolves around two protagonists sharing their stories in the scenery of a swimming pool, wearing the exclusive Miu Miu x mytheresa.com capsule. While one of the protagonists explains how she has always dreamed of being a synchronised swimmer, the second protagonist refuses to swim due to a tragic encounter she had with a shark in the past. Since she rejects to go into the water, in a humorous twist the two protagonists begin to perform a synchronised swimming choreography outside of the water. The dance takes an abrupt end when one of them beholds something surprising in the water. 

“The girls were inspired by Věra Chytilová's 1966 film Daisies and my three year old nieces who are twins but have two very contrasting personalities,” says Sangra when speaking about the process.

The project, produced by BRF, was filmed at the Camberwell Pool in London and sees mytheresa.com team up for the third time with director and writer Danny Sangra, a Central Saint Martin’s graduate and established artist, illustrator and photographer. In contrast to the previous productions, this fashion film combines style and humour through a slightly more theatrical setting and a rather surreal style of performance, creating a heightened reality where anything can happen. 

“I love writing surreal conversations delivered in a very casual manner, I wanted the girls to talk about a subject that would catch an audience off guard. Many of my films come from absurdist humour I grew up with on TV, Monty Python and Reeves and Mortimer,” Danny Sangra.

The protagonists are dressed in the exclusive Miu Miu x mytheresa.com Spring-Summer 2017 capsule collection, which includes a selection of ready-to-wear pieces, bags and shoes and consists out of twenty-eight pieces in total. It features reoccurring floral elements and a beautiful bright color palette, while playing with a mix of patterns and extraordinary materials. 

The collection and the fashion film ‘SHARK’ will launch on mytheresa.com on 26th of April.
