Winners announced in 15 categories including TV Series, TV Film and Comedy

Two weeks after the Venice Film Festival, international jurors met in Venice for the annual Venice TV Award to celebrate this year´s masterpieces. The event is supported by IMZ (International Music + Media Centre), egta (European Group of Television Advertising) and ACT (Association of Commercial TV).

Following the arrival of streaming services, TV programming has undergone a massive shift, spurred on by consumer demand and leaving the global industry to react in kind. ”The quality of television programming today is better than ever through dedicated work by talented people and new ways to communicate. I am pleased that the Venice TV Award recognizes this“, said Sonia Rovai, Head of Scripted Production, Sky Italia.

Nominees from the United Kingdom were most successful, collecting 4 Gold Trophies: Sky won with “Chernobyl“ (co-produced by HBO) and with “Art of Drumming“ in the Performing Arts category. BBC took the Comedy award with ”Don’t Forget the Driver“ and also struck gold in the Youth section with "My Life I Will Survive“.

The Venice event underlined again the continued – and growing - global appeal of TV. Rewards for outstanding work went to the 28 countries

The jury evaluated programmes in the categories of TV Series, TV Film, Comedy, Performing Arts, Documentary, News, Light Entertainment, Program Promotion, Branded Entertainment, Sport, Children/Youth, Reality TV, Technical High Quality, Cross-Platform, New Talent.

The jury at the international Venice TV Award is composed of leading international TV experts – among others Malin Häger from TV 4 Sweden, president of egta; Nicola Caligiore, Rai – Radiotelevisione Italiana, vice-chairman of the TV Committee European Broadcasting Union; Rohit Gupta, president, Sony Pictures Network India; André Takada, vice president creative services Fox Network; Dr. Markus Schäfer, CEO All3Media Germany and The Netherlands, board member Allianz Deutscher Produzenten; Igor Tavares, producer TV Globe; Lothaire Burg art director from ARTE; Elke Walthelm, executive vice president content, Sky Germany, Sonia Rovai, head of scripted production, Sky Italia and many more TV industry personalities.

The Venice TV Award (venicetvaward.com) was launched as a tribute to television, increasing national and international recognition for both producers and broadcasters who create high quality output.

The award highlights the fact that television is a $260 billion industry worldwide, has around 38,500 TV channels in operation, and reaches 1.6 Billion households worldwide.
