Director set for U.S. representation

Venice, CA-based Backyard has signed director Christina Hodnet for U.S. commercial representation.

Exposing the imperfect realities that life offers up, Hodnet explores the small nuances that make a moment unique, lending her sensibilities to projects for clients such as Disney, Bell, Orange Mobile, Pampers, Sears, Betty Crocker, Wal-Mart, Marshalls and Tylenol. She has most recently worked on a pair of award-winning fashion films for Smythe LesVestes.

With uncompromising performances, Christina delivers consistent beauty to her films. Whether it's the affection of a parent, the bond between friends, or a child’s sense of wonder, Christina’s filmic moments are alive with emotion, bringing about feelings of honesty and authenticity. Blending her spirit as a woman and a mother, Christina captures the unfiltered interactions and relationships between people of every age.

“I’m interested in the moment in between the moments,” notes Hodnet. “The photo you delete because it’s not perfect, but in reality is more representational of your life and more charming than the perfect one.

Says Backyard Head of Production Emily Malito, “Christina embraces being a woman and a mother and uses this perspective to her advantage. She is her own target audience which makes for a powerful connection between her, her subjects and her film.”

Hodnet grew up in Southern California, entering the film industry as a young teen in front of the camera. Those first experiences gave her insight into drawing great performances from young actors and ignited a passion to pursue a degree at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Her directing career started shortly after graduation.

Christina resides between Toronto and Los Angeles with her husband and two young children, who she deems her inspiration. “Be careful if you’re my friend or my family,” Hodnet notes, “You might just end up in my work somehow.”

She is represented in Canada by Sons & Daughters and was previously represented in the U.S. by Concrete + Clay.
