A popular myth is that using harsh ingredients often will reduce acne however, Dr Alexis Granite, CeraVe’s Consultant Dermatologist explains the importance of maintaining a healthy skin barrier and a simple yet effective routine.
“It’s a myth that those suffering with breakouts should try to dry skin out – doing so actually triggers an overproduction of oil, causing more inflammation.” said Dr Alexis Granite.
“Teenage skin can be prone to more oiliness and breakouts, but skin at this age is sensitive, too. That’s why a basic routine reigns supreme. Teenagers are introduced to trends and ingredients on social media now that can cause unnecessary experimentation. It’s important to keep it simple and avoid using too many products at once – too much will only lead to irritation and potentially cause issues like contact dermatitis.” said Dr Alexis Granite.
“A fantastic, non-drying option for those with blemish-prone skin. Blemish Control Cleanser is formulated with 2% salicylic acid to help tackle congestion and remove excess oil, while skin soothing niacinamide helps calm skin and reduce the appearance of pores. Also formulated with CeraVe's signature ceramide blend, this wash deep cleans without stripping.
“Spot treatments deliver a targeted dose of active ingredients to target blemishes, helping to clear the spot more quickly. The best spot treatments don't dry the skin excessively, but rather help reduce inflammation and bacteria within acne. Some spot treatments will also help accelerate skin turnover to hasten blemish healing. I like CeraVe Blemish Control Gel which can be used over the entire face but also as a targeted spot treatment.”
“Retinol is one of a dermatologist's favourite ingredients as it has so many skin benefits. Retinol helps turn the skin over more effectively, stimulates collagen which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduces the appearance of pores and pigmentation. By improving cellular turnover and reducing the production and transfer of pigment (melanin) within the skin, retinol helps treat dark marks which are especially common after breakouts. Try CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum for the perfect final step in your blemish fighting routine”. Dr Alexis Granite
