'Share Your Gifts' combines stop motion filmmaking techniques with CGI characters
Apple's 2018 Christmas film is a beautifully crafted animated piece that combines CGI with stop motion.
'Share Your Gifts' follows a young lady named Sofia who spends much of her time creating on her MacBook but hiding the fruits of her labour locked away in a breadbox. That is until her dog knocks her window open and outside's snowy breeze blows her artwork out onto the street. She runs amok to retrieve her creations but ends up surprised to see the joy that they bring to the people who've collected them off the floor. The endline reads 'Share Your Gifts'.
A making of video release by Apple explains that the film was created with a handmade set utilising stop motion techniques, but with CGI characters incorporated into the story (much like last year's BBC Christmas film last year). The technique allows for for emotive performances among the characters but a prettier, more art directed world, according to the associate creative director.
