Rob’s away this week – so you’ve got me!
First up is my new single ‘Never Been Hurt’. The song features the stunning vocals of UK artist Kaia and is a collaboration between myself, Kaia and Chris Mukoko. It tells a story of heartbreak, resilience and learning to fall in love again, fusing UK RnB/Soul with a dark hypnotic twist. I’m super proud of this one, I hope you guys dig it!
Next up is ‘Signal’ by SOHN from his album ‘Rennen’, a beautifully crafted moody ballad packed with soul and sentiment. It was mixed by the hugely talented Manny Marroquin and is a real standout track on the album.
‘Heavy’by Guillty. This is the debut release from Vancouver based artist Guillty, it is a beautifully textured dark and broody pop song filled with hooks and a monster of a chorus. Can’t wait to hear what he does next!
‘Redbone’ by Childish Gambino. Perhaps one of the most unexpected and standout records of the year, Renaissance man Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) recalls early 70’s Funk records like Bootsy Collins’ ‘I’d Rather Be With You’ in this hook-filled slow jam anthem. The song was co-written and produced by longtime collaborator Ludwig Goransson.
‘Jungle’ by Tash Sultana. 22-year-old looping artist Tash Sultana has been making waves in Australia and now round the world with her debut album ‘Notion’. ‘Jungle’, the first single from the album is filled with trippy psychedelic guitars and haunting washed out vocals. It is both effortlessly catchy and wildly experimental, as immersive as it is fearless.
And finally, London based outfit - Strong Asian Mothers give their fresh take on En Vogue’s 1996 hit ‘Don’t Let Go’. I’ve heard this song covered so many times, but these guys have really nailed it!
