Publicis Groupe Bulgaria's managing director of communication business on stumbling into advertising, being genuinely honest and why it's all about relationships

As part of Publicis Groupe Central & Eastern Europe (CEE)’s 'Embrace Gender Equity' initiative that was launched during this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8th, the company created a special series 'Publicis Groupe CEE Lioness' designed to showcase and spotlight its many female talent and leaders across the CEE region, celebrating their experiences and important roles they play within the company. Get to know the Publicis Groupe CEE Lionesses through their stories in this series.

1. Can you share your story with us, how have you gotten to where you are today in your profession?

Blagovesta> I stumbled into advertising by chance, driven by the need for additional income to support myself during my university studies. At the outset of my career, I lacked a complete understanding of the advertising agency's operations. However, the opportunity to join the team working on Nokia helped me decide very quickly and to give advertising a shot. That's how I immersed myself in the art of client service, and in 2008, I decided to continue my development as part of the Publicis Groupe team.

As I progressed, I was fortunate to receive mentorship from distinguished professionals who showed me the gratification from problem-solving and understanding people. Interacting with diverse clients and engaging with their business challenges became a source of fascination, propelling me to pursue continuous personal and professional development.

Subsequently, I delved deeply into account management, client service, strategic initiatives, and new business efforts. Today, I lead the communication business cluster at Publicis Groupe Bulgaria. As I embark on my ‘Fantastic Fifteen’ years as part of the Lion's family, I know the best is yet to come.

2. What has been your most memorable experience in your career so far?

Blagovesta> Just before a challenging and crucial pitch for the Groupe, the youngest member of the team approached me and said, 'I know I can't help you with much, but I won't give up on this profession because of people like you. You may not realise it, but you have a team of people ready to jump into the fire with you, so you will succeed.' This has been my guiding light to this day.

3. Similarly, what was the most challenging moment and how did you overcome it?

Blagovesta> Each day unfolds with fresh challenges in the dynamic landscape of the communication business, ensuring that we remain vigilant and adaptable. Unanticipated scenarios constantly weave themselves seamlessly into our journey, underscoring the inevitability of change. To navigate this ever-evolving terrain, I found that the crux lies in maintaining a firm grip on the situation while cultivating a resilient and flexible mindset.

4. What are your most important tips on achieving success?

Blagovesta> The capacity to be genuinely honest with oneself and others, to skilfully listen, to prioritize people over material concerns, to assuage others' fears and instil trust, to embrace diversity, and to steadfastly uphold one's principles.

5. What are your tips for younger female talent embarking on the journey you’re already on?

Blagovesta> It’s all about relationship!

Success, understanding, and significance is primarily dependent on the quality of your relationships with others.
