Rvk Studios creates Icelandic drama for an international audience
Having produced a string of successful films under the name of Blueeyes Productions LTD (including 101 Reykjavik, Jar City, Contraband and The Deep) all future productions will from now on be under the new umbrella of RVK Studios.
The company has also expanded into TV production, with several Drama series in development including the 10×58 minutes Trapped and a US TV adaptation of the popular game EVE Online to name a few.
The company’s director and chairman of the board is Baltasar Kormákur who is a highly acclaimed director, writer and producer on an International scale. His background is in the theatre but he made his first feature-film ‘101 Reykjavík’ in the year 2000. Since then, Baltasar has been busy directing, writing and producing films both in Iceland and the United States. He has won numerous International Awards, including the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). His recent movies ‘Contraband’ (2012) and ‘2 Guns’ (2013) have both topped the US box office.
Agnes Johansen has been Baltasar’s right hand Producer for the past decade producing movies like the highly acclaimed ‘Jar City’ (2006), ‘Summer Night Wedding’ (2008) and ‘The Deep’ (2012). She continues to be one of Scandinavia’s top producers.
Sigurjon Kjartansson has been the head writer and creator of TV series for more than a decade. He has written and created award winning shows such as ‘Pressa’ (The Press), ‘Réttur’ (Court) followed by ‘Hlemmavideo, ‘Astridur’, ‘Black Angels’ to name but a few. Recently one of his shows, Réttur, was commisioned by NBC for remake in the US. Sigurjon is the Head of Development of RVK Studios.
At the helm of the company is Magnus Vidar Sigurdsson executive producer and a prolific producer of movies, documentaries, non-scripted and drama TV-series for various distributors around the world, including BBC, ARTE, CANAL+ and National Geographic Channel. He has received several awards and recognition for his work as Head of Production for Icelandic production companies and the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RUV) and for the Icelandic broadcaster Stod 2 (Channel 2) over the past two decades. Magnus has 20 years of experience in producing and has made over 300 hours of various TV material among the most known TV formats in the world.
