Junior Dubbing Engineer

London, UK

Job Description

ROLE: Junior Dubbing Engineer

December 2018

SNK Studios is one of London’s leading audio post production companies. We occupy 6 floors on Tottenham Court Road – a lovely building stuffed full of recording studios, tracklay suites and production offices! As part of the SNK Publishing Group, the companies here also include Red Apple Creative - a specialist digital and audio creative agency - and Radio Results - a radio media agency.

We are looking for a Junior Dubbing Engineer to join the current team of in-house sound engineers and primarily focus on the foreign dubbing services the Studios provide.

We have fantastic relationships with several major international TV and film content providers. We handle the mixing of a lot of their foreign re-versioning work; dubbing UK & US programming into other languages. The successful candidate will gain hands-on  experience working on the adaptation and re-versioning of internationally acclaimed shows, feature films and documentaries. Most of the work is in stereo, but some is in 5.1, some 'dry' but also some of it mixed with reverbs / EQs etc to replace the original language audio quality.

There are huge opportunities to learn technical skills, understand client relationships, gain industry experience and ultimately do hands-on work that other facilities may take years to provide.

The existing team will be helping you to get up to speed and become an integral part of the company servicing some of its most important, growing accounts. The plan will be further recruitment in the months to come, and you may well find yourself moving up the ladder as time passes.

For now we are looking for a Junior Sound Engineer to help support the day-to-day running of these projects and to learn how best to support one of the nicest companies to work for in London!

You will work closely with the engineering and production staff to:

  • Train on the foreign versioning work, grow within the dubbing department and contribute to offering an outstanding service to our clients

  • Where necessary help with Quality Checking the mixes

  • From time to time, record voiceovers, edit and mix commercials when required in other studios, although this may not be a regular feature of the role.

  • Deliver files to producers and to clients

  • From time to time you may also be required to do other audio editing and mixing, including for audiobooks and other material the facility produces.

  • A thorough knowledge of ProTools is a must – you will be tested on this – including knowledge of EQ, Compression, and how to treat voice files. You recognise when something sounds good and when it doesn't.

  • This job is ideal for a grad with some industry experience, although no degree is necessary – you could be someone who's worked as a freelancer for a while - and now wants to be part of a bigger, more established team.

  • Some experience of mixing to picture would help – familiar with TV / Online specs including loudness / R128. Video file formats and frame-rate knowledge would be a bonus too.

  • Attention to detail is key, being organised is paramount.

  • You're presentable with great communication skills - good email and phone manner is crucial. You need to be polite, calm and open to learning new things.

9am – 6pm Monday to Friday, with one hour unpaid lunch break- occasionally required to be flexible, detailed in T&Cs prior to contract

Salary & Probation:

Starting salary = £21,000 - £23,000 depending on experience

Probation period of 3 months, extendable to 6 months at company discretion.

Annual salary review.

Discretionary Benefits (after passing probation):

Share in monthly company-wide target based bonus system.

Eligible for Bupa Medical Cover.

Eligible for Cycle to Work scheme.

Above legal minimum maternity and paternity policies depending on length of service.

Other benefits:
