TBWA Stage 'World Cup of Human Rights' Campaign to Support Global LGBT+ Community

As Russia faces off against Egypt, charity All Out want to use this match to hack Twitter to highlight abuses against LGBT+ people in both countries

TBWA Stage 'World Cup of Human Rights' Campaign to Support Global LGBT+ Community

All Out, the global LGBT+ movement, is celebrating tonight’s 2018 Football World Cup match with a live twitter blog of Human Rights violations by Russia and Egypt against the LGBT+ community

On June 19th, in collaboration with ad agency TBWA\London, All Out will piggyback the live online sports commentary and commentate on the World Cup match between Russia and Egypt, focusing on their various Human Rights violations against LGBT+ people, as opposed to the football.

Why: All eyes are currently on Russia as they host the World Cup. Whilst people are celebrating all the pomp and ceremony and cheering on their football heroes, it is important that we don’t forget those that are being abused and punished by the Russian government and other participating countries such as Egypt.

On April 1 last year, Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta published the first news on the massive persecution gay men were facing in Chechnya, Russia. They now know that at least 100 men have been arrested and at least 3 have been killed.

On 22 September 2017, Lebanese band Mashrou’ Leila performed in Cairo. At that concert a group of people waived a rainbow flag, leading to a hunt for people who were perceived as being lesbian, gay, bi or trans. Many were persecuted and imprisoned under questionable charges or ‘debauchery’.

As Russia faces off against Egypt, they want to use this match to highlight abuses against LGBT+ people in both countries.

When: The match kicks off at 7pm here in the UK and the All Out team will be tweeting throughout the match. They will be tweeting from @AllOut and using the hashtags #worldcup #russia2018 and #rusegy

About All Out: All Out is a global movement for love and equality. They are mobilising thousands of people to build a world where no person will have to sacrifice their family or freedom, safety or dignity, because of who they are or who they love.
