Sony/ATV’s Sarah Aarons was crowned Songwriter of the Year and won three other honours at the 2019 APRA Awards.
The LA-based songwriter marked a remarkable past 12 months when her Grammy-nominated song 'The Middle' became a global hit for Zedd, Maren Morris and Zedd by becoming the night’s biggest winner at the annual Australian music event, which was held in her home city of Melbourne on Tuesday.
Besides her Songwriter of the Year win, Aarons also won Most Played Australian Work and Dance Work of the Year for 'The Middle', and was recognised for Rock Work of the Year for co-writing The Rubens’ 'Never Ever'.
Fellow Song/ATV songwriter Amy Shark received the Song of the Year award for her hit 'I Said Hi', which also won Pop Work of the Year. The company’s other winners included Nashville-based songwriter Lindsay Rimes (Overseas Recognition Award), Sia (Most Played Australian Work Overseas for 'Cheap Thrills'), Angus & Julia Stone (Blues & Roots Work of the Year for 'Chateau') and Ed Sheeran (International Work of the Year for 'Perfect').
