Happy holidays all! My last playlist (which I hope you enjoyed) focused on songs that celebrated the encroaching brisk weather of chilly Autumn evenings. Since then, the thermometer has dipped precipitously and stayed there. We’re not even technically into winter yet and I’m done with it already! Well, at least where I’m at it’s decidedly wintertime. Maybe you’re lucky enough to be somewhere where it’s warm.

While there are great hidden gems of holiday music, I just can’t bring myself to dig in and have musical reminders that baby, it’s cold outside. After getting pitched Christmas tracks in July and August and working on holiday campaigns for months leading up to the actual main event, the last thing I really want to dive into are more sleigh bells.

Not long ago I was working on a search that took me down a rabbit hole of boogaloo tracks. That fusion of R&B and soul as seen through a Latin prism in the melting pot of 1960s New York, instantly transported me out of the cold, grey to somewhere vibrant and sunny. It was a great feeling to go to the beach for a little while, if only in my mind.

That feeling is what I had in mind when putting this playlist together. Songs to take you to a warmer state of mind during the long slog of winter. If you’re in the southern hemisphere, I guess you can keep it in your back pocket for a little while! I also wanted to include a song to remember the immense talent of Pete Shelley (RIP) amongst some other songs to help shake off the frost.

So, hang on in there as the Stovall Sisters sing, warmer days are just down the road. Enjoy!
