Following on through our ‘Generations of Felt’ inspired Radio LBB, our aim is to curate playlists that kick started our love in music. Here I concentrate on the '70s through to the late '80s, presenting the list in chronological order.
I guess my music tastes have been pretty much joined hand in hand with my various fashion fixations from Disco, Soul & Funk, Lovers Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop and House (in all its glorious shapes and guises). This is a mixed bag but I’ve picked out key tracks that have stuck with me and I suspect always will. Some tunes travel exceptionally well over the years, others not so, but if we are a similar age I’m sure it will fire off some memories :-).
My favourite from this list has to be Donna Summer, ’I Feel Love’ 1977. Being a child of the seventies I grew up to disco, its four to the floor beat and high hat ride permeated my early childhood and have stayed with me. So, I had of course heard this corker many times before, but when Junior Vasquez dropped the masterpiece at Sound Factory in the early '90s I had a moment….and lord what a moment. Super producer Giorgio Moroder had created a dance record 20 years before the genre was invented which still stands as one of the best tracks, ever. Respect.
Hope you enjoy.
