PSN’s Michael Moffett reflects on a worldwide industry production survey
Local production service management is without substitute when it comes to success in shooting overseas.  That’s one resounding conclusion from the first PSN industry survey of content creators working in foreign countries.

We conducted this PSN online survey during May-June 2018 to check the pulse of our fast-evolving industry.  We wanted to learn the priorities of producers as they strive to deliver more for less.

The projects crossing my desktop daily are in search of production alternatives overseas.  They seek an edge over the competition.  They’re hunting down the best value for the money.  But creative forces – particularly drawn to unique locations – can change their course.  They find a world of options backed by vetted production service management in the local knowledge of PSN Partners.

In our conversations and correspondence with producers, we work with them to determine where they’ll achieve the best creative results for their target budget.
It requires a transparent dialogue focused on results.  The rewards are dependent on the depth of cooperation.  PSN and its Partners’ suggestions are only as good as the production brief we receive.

Looking back on the first half of 2018, we’re thankful for the trust US producers at MJZ, Sweatpants Media and Greenpoint placed in PSN to produce films for Bacardi in Dominican Republic, Toyota in Mexico and LG in Poland respectively.  Still to be released are projects shot with PSN Partners in Romania with The Mill+ and Canada with MPC.

PSN boots on the ground enable producers to shoot global with the confidence of a local.  Oxygen Singapore tapped into our local knowledge to produce a Pharma campaign in UAE + casting assist from Colombia.
There was also this Made.for.Digital (Media Monks) production for Cass in South Korea and a Valentin&Byhr (Sweden) film for Volvo in Poland.  China production houses Red Horse and Steam called on our Partner in Brazil to service shoots with star footballer Neymar for TCL and Oppo campaigns respectively.

Connecting producers worldwide to the best fit for an overseas shoot is a recipe for success that keeps them coming back.  LA producers of marketing deliverables for Netflix Originals have now called on PSN shoot support in strategic markets on three different continents!  Cine Bazaar filmed scenes of an upcoming Japanese feature film with PSN Mexico and Conspiraçao captured the essence of Paris for a Brazilian feature with support from PSN France.

There’s a bond of trust that grows with each completed production.  Our below-the-line assistance is at the very foundation of the creative results.   Producers, directors, and the assorted traveling entourage are reliant on our people from the moment they step off the plane.  No wonder producers responding to our survey credit local production service management and local crew more than most anything for their satisfaction with the results in camera and behind the lens.

Disruption may very well have been the buzzword at Cannes Lions 2018 but I’m betting on cooperation in our people-oriented industry to form new and stronger bonds.  We’ll do it a whole lot better working together.
